This is the strategy I am currently running. I'm sure it could have achieved much higher acres, but I did start 1 week into the round and made some painful mistakes early. I'm thinking I might have too many DMs and that I could maybe phase 2% - 5% into homes or smithies... I'm not sure that is a good idea though since I spent my technology on the +5% gem production. Also, it seems as though the Wiz/Spy Ratio may be too high. What do you think? Is there anything I could improve upon?

Starting behind always meabs you can`t get to top .... So you shouldn`t worry about the acres you might be able to have, anyway I think your defense is just at the limit, when your troops are out, you will perhaps get bottomfed .... 12% mines are ok for the first, and later on you will want to switch to masonries rather than smithies ! Oh and by they way the 10% food 5% gem and afterwards 10% platinum tech is much better than the military tech (afterwards of course you will have to get those 5% and later 10% attack bonus), but you should have chosen food first easy mathematics : You run 12% farms, when you get 10% more food you can run about 11% with same output, giving you 1% of land to build something else on, now look at mines : 12%, you can run about11,5% with same output using this bonus, which only grants you 0,5% free land .... wiz/spy ration is high indeed, I would lower spy ratio to at least 0,6 (you only use them to gather information, not for stealing so this will make it bvery hard for others to spy you, as you will have 50% or more strength all the time ...) and you could keep that wizard ratio (as archmages don`t cost a lot of draftees at all ....). And I wouldn`t use orcs they aren`t as good as wolfies, oh and perhaps you want to get about 0,5% more towers, for 6% aren`t enough I think (all the cs and such)

I recon, since smithies and science got nerfed, you're better of fading out your smithies around 2k acres and start building alcs instead of masonries. That's what a lot of the large players are doing this round.
*hereby admits not being a large player this round*
